About the Author

Sharmin Ahmad (Reepi) was born in a renowned family in Bangladesh and is the daughter of the country's first prime minister. Ahmad immigrated to the United States in 1984, earning a Master of Arts degree in 1990 in Women’s Studies from George Washington University, Washington, DC, and won a fellowship and a Women’s Studies Scholar award.  She also completed graduate studies at GWU in Early Childhood Education. 

She received a Woman of Distinction Award for “outstanding contributions in the field of international goodwill and understanding” from Soroptimist International of the Americas Club, Washington DC. She has been involved with children’s education for two decades and co-produced a children’s peace dance drama based on her first published book “The Rainbow in a Heart.”  She has consulted various prestigious institutes and organizations on peace education, women’s empowerment, human rights and interfaith bridge building.
